Home Tips Tips for Job Candidates Recruitment Interview – Structuring Your Questions

Asking Questions as a Candidate in a Recruitment Interview

  • Prepare questions relevant to the research you have carried out on the company and the job description you have reviewed.
  • Prepare questions relating to development opportunities such as what internal and external training exists, how the promotional structure works etc.
  • Ask about the reporting structure; how many people you will be working for, how many people you will be responsible for, who you are responsible to, if there is a social committee etc.
  • Make sure that your questions make sense, and have not already been answered during the course of the interview.
  • Do not ask too many questions all at once - one question at a time.
  • Where possible ask questions at the end. The interviewer may indicate that it is okay to ask questions throughout the interview however, your question may be covered later and constant interruptions may detract from the interview.
  • Remember that if there is anything important or relevant to the job that you have forgotten to ask, it would normally be acceptable to telephone after the interview to ask any questions. Best to check this with the interviewer before the end of the interview.
