Preparing as a Candidate for a Recruitment Interview

  • Confirm the date, time and venue for interview - some companies operate from several locations in a town or city so make sure you check this.
  • Don't be late. Make sure you know exactly how to get to the venue prior to interview, make sure you know how long it will take to get there and leave in plenty time.
  • Prior to interview, find out about the company from their website or see if they can send you some of their corporate literature.
  • Make sure you have received the job description and any relevant information, and have taken the time to review and understand it.
  • Note any questions that you wish to ask. Don't leave the interview with unanswered questions which leave doubts in your mind about the role or company.
  • Be fully aware of the information that you have provided on your CV so that you are in a strong position to answer the questions asked and practice what you think you might say.
  • Consider what questions you may be asked and how you might best answer them - put yourself in the interviewers’ shoes and think about what you would ask if you were them.
  • Personal presentation is very important. Unless otherwise indicated ensure that you are always smartly dressed.
  • Don't think of the interview process as intimidating and nerve wracking - interviewers have been interviewees themselves and not normally looking for failings in you – they want candidates to do well at interview.
  • Like many things, preparation is the key to success. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
  • Make sure that you have been informed who you should ask on arrival, who is interviewing you and whether there is more than one interviewer.
