Finding a Job

  • Check that Recruitment Agencies you send a C.V. to actually handle vacancies relevant to your career.
  • Visit relevant recruitment fairs, as this can help you to see what possible career options are available and also let you find out more about prospective employers.
  • Make full use of the internet as many companies accept applications directly from their websites. You can also do some background research on the company before you apply.
  • If you want to work in a particular sector, look at industry specific publications for recruitment adverts i.e. Offshore Engineer, Personnel Today etc.
  • Consider sending your C.V. with a covering letter directly to companies that are of interest to you, outlining what you can uniquely offer as an employee.
  • When applying to an advert, read the advertisement carefully and tailor your application to suit the actual requirements of the vacancy - without telling any lies!
  • Ensure that you tailor your C.V. and covering letter to each different role you are applying for as a standard C.V. may not always provide the best results.
  • Keep a positive attitude with all your applications and never give up. If you only get 1 interview after sending 10 applications out, don't view it as 9 failures, see it as one success!
  • To get the most from a Recruitment Agency, ask to meet with a Recruitment Consultant and keep in regular touch from there i.e. weekly / fortnightly.
  • There are a wealth of dedicated recruitment websites you can access for vacancies and career advice...including this one!
