  • Define the overall purpose and objectives of the team and communicate these to team members.
  • Ensure that individual team members objectives are also aligned to departmental / company objectives.
  • Ensure that each team member understands their own role and responsibilities within the team.
  • Ensure that each team member understands their colleagues roles and responsibilities within the team, how these interface with their own and where any boundaries lie.
  • Agree the acceptable working practices, ground rules and behaviours for the team, and ensure that any employees who are not working in line with these are challenged and helped to comply with them.
  • Identify the strengths and weaknesses of individual team members and try to put processes in place that allow you to maximise playing to strengths and minimise weaknesses.
  • Ensure open and ongoing communication within the team to update them on their performance against objectives.
  • Celebrate all significant successes within the team, both collective and individual.
  • Try to have some fun in the along the way!
