eLearning FAQs
The Basics
How can e-Learning reduce my training time and costs?
E-Learning is a cost effective method of training because it reduces the need for travel and can also reduce associated expenses such as overnight accommodation and subsistance costs. E-learning can also be completed in downtime, at any time of the day or night, reducing the amount of lost hours and expenditure to a company. Courses can be exited at any point - the page is automatically bookmarked to ensure that the learner can re-enter the course at the same place where he/she left.
What hardware and software do we need?
- Computer system running a Windows Operating System (Windows 98 or later)
- Graphics card capable of at least 1024 x 768 with 64k colours
- A windows compatible soundcard with Speakers or Headphone
- Internet connection
- Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 (or later) required
- Adobe Flash Player version 9 or later
- Adobe Flash Player can be downloaded from the Adobe website: www.adobe.com
Are demonstrations of your courses available?
The UP eLearning website contains short demos for all our course products. If you would like to demo a course in more detail, please contact us and we will arrange 24 hour access for you to any of our products.
Deployment
What are the deployment options?
Deployment can be via:
- Internet portal - hosted via the UP e-Learning portal; training can be accessed anywhere in the world, providing there is adequate internet connectivity. The Learning Management System (LMS) incorporates the features for registering, launching, tracking and reporting e-learning content.
- Company intranet - courses can be hosted on your company's intranet; courses can be accessed by any computer that is attached to the network. This is available for large-scale deployment only.
Why would I select the hosted service over intranet or CD deployment and vice versa?
Where internet connectivity is sufficient, we always recommend the internet portal as the preferred deployment method. This allows learners' progress and results to be recorded centrally and accessed at anytime. It also allows course updates and any required support and maintenance to be carried out remotely. CD deployment is only recommended where internet connectivity is not sufficient to run the courses online. Content is deployed locally and results extracts need to be performed on a regular basis and sent back to us for our records. CD deployment is generally used in remote locations such as offshore but, where possible, we will suggest Local Content Deployment Solution which still holds course content locally, but feeds results back to the internet portal.
Compatability & Customisation
Are the products SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) compliant?
All our e-Learning products are designed to meet the Advance Distributed Learning (ADL) SCORM standards. SCORM is the recognised international standard for e-Learning development (www.adlnet.org)
The SCORM standard defines a web-based learning content model and provides a set of interrelated technical specifications designed to meet a number of high-level criteria.
Using the SCORM standard will help to ensure that should our products be required to integrate in the future with new systems, there is no requirement for a rebuild.
We run our training via a Learning Management System. Can we integrate courses with our own LMS?
Yes. For large-scale implementation our courses can be run from a company's existing LMS. There will be a cost associated with installing the course on the LMS along with the cost of the course itself.
Can we customise the training materials?
Customisations can be made to any of our courses. We are also able to build bespoke courses specific to your company's training needs. We have access to a team of media developers and 3D Artists who will create courses to your specification if required. There will be a cost associated with any customisations or new course builds. Please contact us for further information.
Module Access & Costs
Can I access a module more than once?
Yes, each user can access a module as many times as they wish during the course of the licence agreement.
How long will I have access to the module for?
That depends on the duration of your licence - typically these are 12 months for single / low volume use and 3 years for an unlimited site licence.
How much does a module cost?
Each module is highly cost effective and is a fraction of the price of traditional training methods which get the same quality of learning outcome. The price per person varies depending on the number of users. Why not contact us to briefly discuss your potential requirements and we can give you an immediate estimate based on your actual needs, with no obligation to buy.
Tracking Progress
Can I track learner movements?
The Learning Management System (LMS) records a learner's progress through a course and also stores any learner feedback.
Are certificates available for completed courses?
Once a course is completed, a learner can print off a certificate to show that the course has been completed. It can be signed by a training supervisor or someone that can verify that the individual has completed the training.
